Coinbase Exec Michael Rihani Joins Nubank as Crypto Director

Nubank, one of Latin America’s biggest digital financial platforms, announced on September 26, 2025, the appointment of Michael Rihani as its new Director of Crypto.

According to the press release, the former Coinbase product director will lead Nubank Cripto from the United States and report to Thomaz Fortes, the company’s Executive Director of Crypto and Digital Assets. The move shows how Nubank continues to strengthen its leadership as it expands digital currency services in the region.

Rihani brings more than fifteen years of experience from leading technology and financial companies. He helped build Apple Pay and Apple Card at Apple, worked on Bitcoin payments at Tesla, improved Bitcoin tools at Cash App, and later led product services at Coinbase. His broad career path shows a focus on building financial tools with global reach.

In a post on X, Rihani explained his decision to join the Brazilian fintech. “Over the past few years, I’ve dedicated my career to Bitcoin and improving the world’s financial system,” he wrote. 

“If you want to build something new and impactful, there’s no better place than Nubank. Nubank Crypto has become one of the most competitive options on the market, and it’s a privilege to work with a team committed to redefining the future of money.”

Nubank Cripto, the company’s digital asset platform, now serves 6.6 million customers. It allows users to buy, sell, and store cryptocurrencies directly in the Nubank app. The bank recently launched a feature that enables clients to pay their credit card bills using Bitcoin. This expansion shows how Nubank is developing new ways to bring digital assets into everyday financial life.

The decision to bring Rihani on board shows a growing trend of U.S. executives moving to emerging markets. With its large user base and fast-growing services, Nubank is positioning itself as a leading player in crypto adoption across emerging markets.
