Ether.fi DAO Proposes $50M ETHFI Token Buyback Plan

Ether.fi DAO has proposed a plan to spend up to $50 million buying back its ETHFI tokens when the price is below $3. The proposal was shared on Thursday and voting began on Friday on Snapshot.
According to the proposal, voting will last four days, and if approved, the program will start right away. The buyback aims to use treasury funds to support the token’s value, boost confidence, and reward loyal holders.
The plan gives the Ether.fi Foundation the power to buy ETHFI from open markets or on-chain venues as long as the token trades under $3. It will continue until the $50 million limit is reached or the community decides to end it.
“The Foundation intends to expand buyback capacity in proportion to protocol revenues, particularly while ETHFI remains below $3,” the proposal said. This means that the more the project earns, the more it can buy back its own token.
All purchases will be recorded on the blockchain and shared publicly through the Ether.fi Dune Analytics dashboard. The foundation says this will keep the process open and build trust with the community. Earlier buybacks under proposals #8 and #10 helped improve liquidity and token stability. This new plan builds on those results while adding a clear price trigger for action.
At the time of the proposal, ETHFI traded around $0.95, up 7% in 24h and down almost 89% from its 2024 peak, according to CoinMarketCap. That puts it within the price range for buybacks to begin once approved.

Many DeFi projects are turning to similar moves, using buybacks as a way to boost their tokens. CoinGecko reports that total DeFi buybacks in 2025 have topped $1.4 billion, showing a growing trend in the sector.
Ether.fi is a non-custodial, Ethereum-based liquid staking and restaking platform. It allows users to stake their ETH and earn rewards while keeping a tradable token. By linking protocol revenue directly to tokenholder value, the project hopes to align community growth with financial strength.
