Spain Picks Prosegur Crypto to Manage Seized Assets

Spain’s Ministry of the Interior has chosen Prosegur Crypto to manage crypto assets seized by the State Security Forces. As a result, the agreement gives the company full control over registration, tracking, storage, and conversion of these digital assets into cash when needed. This shows Spain’s push to modernize law enforcement.

Prosegur Crypto is part of Prosegur Cash, known for its strong security systems and expertise in digital asset custody. José Ángel Fernández Freire, CEO of Prosegur Crypto, said, “

According to the press release, this agreement reflects how our technological and operational infrastructure meets the needs of public institutions. Our goal is to guarantee maximum security and traceability in the administration of seized crypto assets.” Furthermore, the company will use military-grade encryption and offline systems to protect private keys and prevent hacking.

The company will keep a detailed record of all seized assets so that nothing is lost or tampered with. Prosegur Crypto will also handle the conversion of crypto into euros whenever the authorities request it. Its system allows blockchain transactions without direct internet access, therefore keeping assets safe from cyberattacks.

Spain’s decision follows the European Union’s MiCA rules, which set rules for safely keeping crypto. Notably, tokenized assets are growing at a fast rate in Europe, with real-world assets totaling over $300 billion since 2024. This move helps Spain manage digital assets in a clear and secure way.

In addition, the service will support police and courts in keeping digital evidence safe and easy to track during investigations and trials. It also centralizes management, which was previously handled by different agencies, making the process simpler and more transparent.

This partnership is one of the first examples of a government using institutional-grade crypto custody. In addition, it could serve as a model for other countries looking to secure seized digital assets. Prosegur Crypto’s combination of physical security and strong digital systems ensures that all assets remain safe.
