Tether Donates $250K to Support Open-Source Development

Tether has donated $250,000 to the public charity OpenSats on October 16, 2025, to support open-source developers, researchers, and educators.
According to the announcement, the funds will be used to sustain OpenSats’ operations and provide grants aimed at advancing free and open-source projects.
These projects range from developing core Bitcoin rules and privacy tools to important research and education across the ecosystem. Tether’s donation reaffirms its strong commitment to this open development.
OpenSats operates in a very clear way. They guarantee that all donor funds go directly to the people receiving the grants. The charity uses separate donations to cover its own operating costs. This model helps keep their public-interest mission very clear and transparent for everyone involved.
Paolo Ardoino, who is the CEO of Tether, spoke about the value of open technology. He said, “We at Tether believe that Bitcoin, and the free, open-source software that powers it, are indispensable to a freer and decentralized future.”
Mr. Ardoino added that his company is proud to help OpenSats. He noted that they are “on the front line supporting the continued growth of this ecosystem by funding the next generation of innovators.”
Notably, OpenSats was created to provide a stable and easy-to-understand way to fund those who contribute to Bitcoin and other free open-source software. They focus their grants on many important roles. These roles include software developers, researchers, educators, designers, and reviewers. OpenSats aims to expand access and make the Bitcoin ecosystem stronger for the long term.
Matt Odell, a Co-Founder of OpenSats, pointed out the positive work already done. “OpenSats has provided over 300 grants to developers working on freedom tech projects,” he confirmed.
He expressed confidence that the support from Tether “will help us continue to scale our mission globally.” This donation further solidifies Tether’s position in funding public goods that support financial freedom.
