Tether to Launch USAT Stablecoin with Bo Hines as CEO

Tether is launching a U.S.-based stablecoin called USAT and has named Bo Hines as its CEO. The launch, announced on 12 September 2025, is part of the company’s plan to bring a regulated dollar-backed digital coin to the U.S. market.

According to the press release, USAT will follow the GENIUS Act and aims to give businesses and institutions a clear and safe way to use a digital dollar.

Bo Hines, who served as a White House crypto adviser, will lead the project, bringing experience from the U.S. policy space. Tether aims to use his knowledge to make the stablecoin compliant and trusted from day one.

USAT will be backed by U.S. dollars and short-term treasury bills. Tether will work with Cantor Fitzgerald as the main reserve custodian and Anchorage Digital as the federally regulated issuer.

The stablecoin will also use Tether’s Hadron technology to manage real-world assets. The company said this combination will ensure that USAT meets all regulatory requirements while being easily accessible.

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, said, “Today, with the introduction of USA₮ and Bo Hines’s appointment as future CEO of Tether USAT, we are taking the next natural step, bringing that same strength to the U.S. under a world-leading U.S.-regulatory framework.”

Bo Hines spoke about his new role, saying, “I am honored to lead USA₮ as we prepare for its launch, creating a U.S.-regulated dollar-backed stablecoin designed to strengthen America’s role in the global economy.”

He will oversee the project to ensure compliance, transparency, and innovation at every stage. Tether also noted that USATwill give businesses and people a digital option alongside regular money and payment systems. This is part of Tether’s plan to grow its stablecoin presence in the U.S. while reinforcing the strength of the U.S. dollar.
Notably, Tether’s existing USDT token has nearly 500 million users and a market cap above $169 billion, according to Coinmarketcap. The company is among the largest holders of U.S. Treasuries and is known for transparent reserves.
