‘Trump Insider Whale’ Raises Bitcoin Short to $340M

The mysterious ‘Trump Insider Whale’ has significantly increased their bearish bet against Bitcoin (BTC), raising their total short position to a massive $340 million. This move follows the whale earning approximately $200 million in profit by shorting the crypto market just last week.

The whale, also known as the HyperUnit Bear Whale, deposited an extra $40 million in USDC and shorted another $127 million in BTC, according to the on-chain platform Arkham. This large trade, coming as Bitcoin’s price climbs toward $116,000, has raised investor fears of another major price crash.

Meanwhile, HypurrScan data shows the whale’s position currently holds an unrealized profit of almost $4 million. The trade’s entry price was $116,000, and liquidation is set at $130,000. The whale’s timing suggests a strong belief that the price will fall sharply again soon.

Last week, the whale shorted $700 million in BTC and $350 million in Ethereum (ETH) just before a huge market crash. The market fell hard after President Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff on China. The whale placed a $735 million trade on both crypto about 30 minutes before the announcement, earning the nickname ‘Trump Insider Whale’ due to the timing.

Notably, the trade war worries are currently easing, which would normally support a crypto price rally. In a post, President Trump later softened the 100% tariff idea, stating that the entire situation “will all be fine.” In addition, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that the U.S. is currently in talks with China to prevent a major trade war.

Despite this market optimism, the whale’s continued bearish position is a main concern for market watchers.
