US House to Vote on Bill to End Shutdown Today

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote today on a bill to end the government shutdown. The vote is expected around 7 p.m. Eastern Time. House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise said in a CNBC interview that the vote will “start the process probably around 4, 5 o’clock” before the final vote.

The shutdown has lasted 43 days, making it the longest in U.S. history. If the bill passes, federal offices will reopen and government workers will return to work. Furthermore, President Donald Trump has indicated he will sign the bill once it reaches his desk.

Recently, the House Rules Committee approved the Senate-passed bill. However, Democrats have raised concerns about the lack of extra health care funding. Despite this, House Speaker Mike Johnson said, “The shutdown is ending tonight” and officials are hopeful about the vote outcome.

In addition, Polymarket data shows a 98% chance that the shutdown will end today. Many Americans have felt the effects through delayed services and furloughs. For example, federal workers have been sent home without pay. Programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program have been paused, and airport delays have increased during the holiday travel season.

The spending bill covers government operations until January 30. It also provides money for agriculture, military programs, legislative agencies, and back pay for furloughed workers.

Moreover, Rep. Scalise expressed confidence that some Democrats will vote with Republicans to pass the bill. He said, “We may get a few more than that in the House who want to end this madness and just let people get back to their lives.”

Notably, market expert Raoul Pal said the reopening would be positive for crypto. He explained that the U.S. Treasury could spend $250 billion to $350 billion in the coming months, boosting liquidity and supporting the markets.

Overall, the House vote is a critical step toward ending the impasse. Lawmakers are racing to finish the process so government services can return to normal.

Both political parties have blamed each other for the shutdown. Scalise described the situation as “madness” but said it should end today.
